FanFormula: Week 12. Bahrain.

So this weeks FanFormula video ended up being the case of the big hair monster.
Along with my pretty much unmade up face.
I'm hoping you will see past the lion hair and unkempt-ness and hopefully the F1 related words out of my mouth are a good distraction.

This week I also reference a past FanFormula video, blame Bernie and do plenty of hand swishing.

And so on to this week's FanFormula questions.

Question One 
Friday saw Force India pull out of FP2 due to an incident involving their team personnel on the Wednesday night. What do you make of their decision and the controversy around FOM showing no coverage of the team during qualifying?

Question Two
The stewards reviewed the two incidents between Rosberg and Alonso/Hamilton and have decided not to penalise him. Do you agree with their decision? If not what would you have done?

Question Three
Bahrain was our first dry race of the season, which saw the first race win for RBR and a double podium of Lotus. Do you think that this indicates that even without the weather intervening that the grid is a lot closer this year and that we will continue to see a variety of drivers and constructors on the podium for the rest of the season?

OZZIE PROIDE

So anyone who follows me at twitter knows about my slight obsession for anything Australian.

So it makes sense that I seem to like Mark Webber.
Not just for his singing. Honest. 

Now last year was always going be a tough year for Webber.
A young, smart, charismatic world champion for a team mate in Sebastian Vettel.

And a team in Red Bull that generally focuses on bringing new, fresh talent into F1. 

After the loss of Rubens Barrichello from F1 in 2012. (I'm still in mourning over this.)
It seems likely that in the next couple of years we are going to lose Webber too.
Sadly in part due to his age. Mark does turn thirty six this year.

That is why in 2012. The year of the Olympics, my quarter of century and the Muppets movie.
That I'm putting my two pence in, on Mark Webber winning the world championship.


Here are my reasons why.

One.
I assume (We haven't seen pre-testing yet) that the Red Bull car will be quick and like last year reliable.
So winning car. Check.

Two.
Good end to a season, good start to a new one.

I like to believe in this theory.
Mark won the last race of the year (Okay, mainly down to a Vettel car failure but still)
So confidence will be at a high and hopefully will be maintained to the start of the new F1 year.

Three.
Mark Webber is one of the nice guys in F1.
They say nice guys finish last but I'm desperate for that to not happen to Webber.
Mark seems so down to earth and I would really love him to do well.

Like Rubens before him. I would love it if Mark went (When the time comes) out with a bang and a world championship under his arm.
I would also love Webber to get better starts of the grid but you can't wish for everything. If so I would have had that Ferrari by now.

But sadly though.
I'm not Mystic Tiff.

But I'm the same person who predicted a podium for Nick Heidfeld in Malaysia last year.
And that Fernando Alonso would win a championship whilst he was still driving baby steps in a Minardi.


So maybe just maybe it could happen.
*Crosses fingers*

Retro F1 fitty of the week: James Hunt

Since it has been a while seen I have done a retro F1 fitty post.
I thought I would get back into the swing of things with a F1 fitty from the seventies.
A decade I seemed to haven't covered yet.

Now most ladies do love a bad boy.
We also secretly love a ladies man. (We just don't admit it.)

Now if I mention the seventies, bad boy and ladies man.
Only one name should could to mind.
James Hunt.


James was not only suave and quite beautiful.
He also had a fantastic sense of humour and straight John bull attitude to life and to work
His dry wit made him not only a great driver, but an amazing commentator even after he retired from racing.

One of my favourite piece's of James's honesty has to be this clip.


James was also very laid back. Playing by his own rules, James would turn up to important media events in just jeans and a T-shirt and like to have his own patches sewn onto his race suit.
This was the most infamous one.


Red Bull even replicated it a couple of years ago.


Not only did James have the personality but he also had the looks.
The long blonde hair and dashing blue eyes.
Made him quite the catch back in the day.

But like all the good playboys, James burnt bright and died young.
Which is a travesty.

So to all the retro playboys.

STR's choice.

So this week after much speculation both Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi have been given the push by Toro Rosso after two years in the team.


The thing is. Someone asked me a few months ago. If you could only keep one driver out of Toro Rosso who would it be.
And I couldn't have given an answer.

Both Jaime and Seb have given stellar performances at times and were both quite evenly matched on pace and performance in the Toro Rosso
It was a bit like an F1 of version Sophie's choice. Only with two drivers instead of children.

So I can understand why Toro Rosso have given both drivers the push.
It was the easiest if a little slightly cowardly thing to do.

F1 moves so fast and with only 26 places it's so competitive.
(Unless you have money and can buy your way in. *Nudges Pastor Maldonaldo*)
Seeing Jaime and Sebastien drive I never once thought. They are something special. They are going to be champions of the future.
So far I have only done that with Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel on their F1 debuts.

I would like Jaime and Sebastien back in F1 at some point. They weren't awful drivers, they just weren't that memorable.

But with Jaime and Sebastien gone.
New blood can come to the fore.
In the form of the Red Bull junior team programme.

With Daniel Ricciardo finally getting a drive with a better team then HRT and new boy and former Toro Rosso test driver Jean-Eric Vergne also taking the second seat at the team.


I'm hoping that 2012 should be a brighter year for the sister Red Bull team.
