Scottish pride. Jim Clark.

Lately the name on everyone's lips at the moment seems to be Jimmy Clark.
Mainly because Sir Jackie Stewart did an interview on Sky F1 and talked about the great man.


Funny enough this post was actually going to be a Retro F1 fitty of the week post.
But half way through, I realised that it just didn't feel right.

When I do any Fitty of the week, I always do some research (It's a hard life). Mainly looking at pictures and video footage.
This time though.
When I did that for Jim Clark, it seemed a bit wrong.

Whilst watching old youtube footage. I just wanted people to remember how great a driver he really was and when he died in tragic circumstances how devastating it was to the sport.

So from now on. If I do a Retro F1 Fitty of the week it won't involve anyone that we have lost.

But I still feel like Jim Clark should be honoured. Even if it is just in this blog post.

So in honour of the great man.
I'm going to hand you over to another legend.
Murray Walker.

To remind us all and to keep remembering the one and only.
Jim Clark.

Retro F1 Fitty of the week. Jacques Villeneuve

Now this week's Retro F1 Fitty was difficult for me to write about.
Mainly because the title of this blog post should really be Retro Geeky F1 Fitty of the week.

But that title, although accurate. Is a little bit too long.
Now for those who don't know me personally.
I like geeky looking boys.
Stick a pair of glasses on a boy and I literally swoon at the knees.

That's why this Fitty of the week, won't appeal to everyone.
But it will appeal to the lovers of geek chic.

My Retro F1 Fitty of the week is Jacques Villeneuve.

Now we might of forgotten about the random hairstyles, the three times too big overalls and the interchangeable girlfriends. Oh Hai Dannii Minogue.


But Jacques was pretty attractive back in the day.
He even posed topless for the now defunct F1 Magazine.
(Sadly I couldn't find the photo of that, which is gutting because I know it existed. This picture, though sadly will have to suffice.)


For me though of Jacques most attractive traits, is being opinionated.
One thing Jacques has never been is quiet.

If he had something to say. He would say it.
With no care of the media or who it could offend.
Now with F1 being so careful and protective of its image.
I love someone who fights the power and blatantly doesn't give a toss what anyone thinks.
Of course in time it does get you into trouble.

Sadly for the 1997 F1 world champion.
It did. On a regular basis.

But to me and many others.
It's something that Formula One misses.
Someone with a voice.

Especially if they also have a singing voice.


Luckily you can still hear Jacques's opinions every month in F1 Racing Magazine.
With less of his singing voice though.

Retro F1 fitty of the week: James Hunt

Since it has been a while seen I have done a retro F1 fitty post.
I thought I would get back into the swing of things with a F1 fitty from the seventies.
A decade I seemed to haven't covered yet.

Now most ladies do love a bad boy.
We also secretly love a ladies man. (We just don't admit it.)

Now if I mention the seventies, bad boy and ladies man.
Only one name should could to mind.
James Hunt.


James was not only suave and quite beautiful.
He also had a fantastic sense of humour and straight John bull attitude to life and to work
His dry wit made him not only a great driver, but an amazing commentator even after he retired from racing.

One of my favourite piece's of James's honesty has to be this clip.


James was also very laid back. Playing by his own rules, James would turn up to important media events in just jeans and a T-shirt and like to have his own patches sewn onto his race suit.
This was the most infamous one.


Red Bull even replicated it a couple of years ago.


Not only did James have the personality but he also had the looks.
The long blonde hair and dashing blue eyes.
Made him quite the catch back in the day.

But like all the good playboys, James burnt bright and died young.
Which is a travesty.

So to all the retro playboys.

Guest post. Retro F1 fitty of the week. Francois Cevert.

This week's Retro F1 fitty of the week comes from my twitter friend Susie.
Who this week talks about Francois Cevert.

The story of Frenchman Francois Cevert is one ultimately of sadness and unfilled promise. Having been tragically killed at Watkins Glen in 1973, he was never able to take up the mantle of team leader at Tyrrell.

I think Cevert's appeal became more obvious recently when people started to realise the resemblance between he and current F1 driver Jerome D'Ambrosio. (Missed that F1 fitty post? Catch it here)

Of course these drivers have one thing in common.

The blue eyes.


With his dark hair, piercing eyes and fascinating background (Cevert was the son of a Parisian jeweller who joined the French resistance), Francois Cevert very much encapsulated the glamorous side of F1 in the 1970s.

Sadly we will never know how Cevert's career would of progressed, but he remains in the memory of F1 fans as a big talent who would surely have gone to accomplish great things in the sport.

Retro F1 Fitty of the Week. Ayrton Senna.

Now after months and months of speculation. (By no-one)
I have finally decided what to do about F1 fitty of the week, since I can't do any more current ones.

So I have decided instead to do a retro F1 fitty of the week.
The best thing about it. All the choices won't be mine. (Hoorah)

I will also be spreading it to other female members of the F1 community.

So back to this week's retro F1 fitty and I'm going to start retro F1 fitty with a link to my last current F1 fitty. (Which if you missed you can see here.)

The link is quite simply family.

So this week's retro fitty of the week is Ayrton Senna.


Now like I have said in previous posts, I'm not into the tall, dark and handsome stereotype but has we know with Ayrton.
He was more then that.

His eyes told more of a story then any book.

Not only that but he had a voice that could melt butter.
*Shivers*


But even better then Ayrton's looks or voice.
Was two things: His intelligence and his driving ability.
Ayrton had both of these in spades.

This made him the most rarest of drivers and the most alluring.
A beautiful man who had a lot left to give.

A beautiful man that will live on in Formula One forever.
